I’m getting acquainted with your column - can you tell me in which tradition do you believe and do you believe in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist?

I'm Anglican, leaning toward begin Anglo-Catholic. I believe in the Real Presence, but with Lancelot Andrewes, Richard Hooker, and Queen Elizabeth I, I prefer the details of that remain a mystery.

I’m not sure I understand what that means and why it’s an important distinction

Well it’s a big topic. Do you have a more specific question?

I’m a Roman Catholic, so I am curious what is the difference between your Anglican belief in the Real Presence which “remains a mystery,” and my Catholic belief that we receive the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ, as transformed during the Mass.

Is it a matter of consecration by an ordained Priest, or of transubstantiation?

If you prefer to point me towards a specific source, I am happy to read up on my own.

Many thanks 🙏🏼

I totally agree that we need to pray for Roman Catholics that their eyes would be open to the truth of God’s Word, and they stop being deceived by this apostate religion from its very inception. Yes, many Roman Catholics are faithful, but to who or what?? It’s to their religion! They need to absolutely flee from this legalistic religion. I am reminded what Paul said in the book of Galatians, “I am amazed that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you by the grace of Christ, for a different gospel; which is really not another; only there are some who are disturbing you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed! As we have said before, so I say again now, if any man is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, he is to be accursed! For am I now seeking the favor of men, or of God? Or am I striving to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a bond-servant of Christ.”

I pray for the whole state of Christ’s church as well. But, I won’t be wasting my time praying for Roman Catholics or their church.

You don’t understand Catholicism. Because we have the Body and blood of Christ, the teaching, the sacraments, Our Lady, the tradition and the founding grace; we have Jesus. Now if all of the leaders flounder, as they did at Calvary, we can still not leave Jesus. The Catholic Church harbours, sinners, saints, traitors , martyrs, Luke warm, anybody.

1. The Church of Rome has no monopoly on Jesus, the sacraments etc.

2. St. John said we aren't even to give false teachers a greeting, much less be in communion with them. St. Paul anathemized false teachers. No priest or bishop or pope is exempt from that apostolic standard.
