There’s been some alarm in Christian circles that roughly half of American Christians might not vote in this election. Well, there should be alarm. If Christians and sane, decent people in general don’t vote, Kamala Harris and Democrats win. And this ain’t your Granddaddy’s Democrat Party. Harris and the Democrats are profoundly evil as I’ve reminded again and again.
I’ve already posted that, while we should “cut … regular people in the pews a lot of slack when it comes to politics,” supporting Kamala is gravely wrong for faithful Christians and flat not acceptable in church leaders.
The situation in our country and its politics is so perilous, that not voting is also wrong. Someone as evil as Kamala Harris is on the ballot for President, and some of you Christians won’t even vote? Well, there is a Bible verse about you if you can’t be bothered to vote:
Like a trampled spring and a polluted well
Is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked. (Proverbs 25:26 NASB 95)
You may have the river of life within you by God’s grace and His Holy Spirit. But if you are so stagnant and cowardly that you can’t be bothered to vote against people as evil as Kamala Harris and the Democrat Party, then you are good for nothing just as stagnant polluted water is not good for drinking.
Hey, don’t look at me. The Bible said it. And, as I like to sing, “the Bible is right, and somebody’s wrong.”
There are other, less in-your-face reasons for Christians to vote. We have responsibilities as citizens even if the society is making us feel more and more like exiles. David Roseberry, not a fire breather like me, makes that argument well.
And if neither candidate meets your holy standards of perfection, that is no excuse. We are electing a President, not a Christ. And who is perfect anyway? If one candidate, maybe Trump, is flawed, obnoxious at times, but gets most of the big things right, and the other major candidate, certainly Harris, is profoundly evil and an existential danger, shame on you if you can’t be bothered to vote for the clearly better candidate.
Again Roseberry argues well along these lines and is much gentler about it. And maybe I should be nicer, too. But if Christians don’t vote or, worse, if too many Christians vote for Kamala and the Democrats, the resulting downfall for this country would be horrific and perhaps irreversible. So like a guy on the side of the road that knows the bridge ahead has collapsed, I might be a bit demonstrative and downright impolite in warning you and yours not to go any further down the road.
So, please, Christians and all decent common sense Americans, do the right thing. Vote and vote wisely.
And if you can vote early in person, so much the better.
Thanks for putting up with me and hearing me out.
That post by Ray Ortlund isn't just a statement of fact. It's stated with a kind of smug, rhetorical flourish that suggests he is a man who is very proud of his own "virtue" and wants the world to know about it. He accomplished his purpose obviously, and got the attention of the execrable David French, king of the Never-Trumpers, who sold their souls for a bowl of leftist pottage, and a pat on the head by the Democrat Party courtiers in New York and Los Angeles. I hope Heaven is a place where we no longer have to endure the preening moral posturing of people like Ray Ortlund and David French.
Jesus is not a Republican, and He doesn't make endorsements, but any Christian who claims that other Christians are not reflecting the glory of God if they vote for Trump and the Republicans is no different from British pacifists in 1940. George Orwell stated flatly that such people were aiding the German war effort.
David French, if you have tears, prepare to shed them now. I voted by mail, straight Republican.
