Hal Lindsey had a lot to do with my journey leading me to the the Lord. He was one of the MANY sources that I went to to put all the pieces together...I listened daily to Vernon McGee on AM radio and I did read Late Great Planet Earth...I read through the Chronolocial Daily NIV Bible, and Vernon McGee's 5 year Bible Volume Library. I loved tuning into the old Hal Lindsey Report. He will be missed.

Good ‘ol J. Vernon McGee. I listened to him every day in high school. 🙂

Get on the Bible Bus. And an aside about J Vernon McGee: I was astounded one day to hear him say that the nation-state of Israel formed in 1948 had NOTHING to do with Bible prophecy. He is the only noted dispensationalist I have ever heard aver that position.

And there is his connection to Bob Dylan’s conversion which brought us Slow Train Coming, Saved and Shot of Love!

God bless you for this, Mark! On Wednesday, some Substacker whose list I got on sent out an article about Hal Lindsey, false prophet. I can't find what I said to him, but it was properly excoriating. The first thing I pointed out was what you point out with your article, that as mistaken as Hal Lindsey may have been in some respects, his down market little paperbacks won souls for Christ which only Eternity can disclose. I also told the guy that my strong hunch was that Hal Lindsey had won more souls for Christ than that guy ever had.

Then, I took him to proper task for calling Hal Lindsey a false prophet. I said that as far as I was aware, Lindsey never taught anything that wasn't based on his understanding of the Bible.

Being a little man, he hasn't responded. If he's foolish enough to do so, I am going to offer him a $2,000 bet: find me one example of Hal Lindsey's claiming to have a Word from the Lord. ( Ordinarily, I'd have offered him a $1,000 bet, not that I have ever actually offered anyone a bet in excess of $5.00, but it is the Christmas season. )

God can use many different means to bring people to faith in Him. I first read The Late Great Planet Earth as a teenager in the 70s. It wasn’t until many years later reading More than Conquerors by William Hendrickson that I got a much better understanding of the Revelation. We are supposed to search the Scriptures and seek better understanding of God and His inspired word. So don’t stop at the LGPE. Find a good commentary on Revelation and you will understand it much better.

I’m surprised and a little dismayed that you do not seem to know the difference between “prophesy” (a verb) and “prophecy” (a noun). They are pronounced differently and are two different words.

I'm disappointed, too! (Actually, it was a typo or just bad spelling. Apologies.)

Shouldn’t you fix it?

I think this long after the fact, I will let it be and follow my own advice to have a good laugh over "zealous and well-meaning errors."

But I appreciate the heads-up to avoid that error in the future as spell check won't catch that.
