Book Review: The Unprotected Class - How Anti-White Racism is Tearing America Apart
Jeremy Carl gets what time it is.
Years ago, when the Critical Race Theory claim that the United States is systemically racist was gaining traction, I thought that claim had validity fifty or sixty years ago but not today. Before long, I saw that race hustlers, with or without their precious worthless PhDs, could not credibly claim America was racist today.
But how could they then continue their grift? So they redefined racism to 1. exempt themselves from being racist when most of them were exactly that against whites and “Whiteness” and to 2. mean different results regardless of how fair and even-handed society had become in the area of race.
So I was right and quick to see that the claims of Critical Race Theory were not only wrong, but intellectually dishonest to say the least. But in rejecting alleged systemic racism, I was slower to see something important and dangerous about today’s America. Even when a friend almost as right-of-center as I cryptically said that America is systemically racist, I was puzzled and missed his point.
But although I can be slow at times, I do pay attention. And I noticed more and more racism in government, education, and big business . . . against white people, particularly white straight men. I eventually saw that the country that had been systemically racist against people of color 60 years ago had become systemically racist against whites. But like most, I was hesitant to be loud is saying so. Cancel culture and the fear of being smeared as racist was in high tide. I was not alone in being hesitant. As much as books were needed that well laid out what time it was, that it was not 1960 but the 2020’s marred by systemic racism against whites, I noticed close to none. (Perhaps I missed some good books? Feel free to inform me in the comments.) And who could blame authors and publishers from wanting to avoid being cancelled?
But into the void now bravely comes Jeremy Carl with The Unprotected Class: How Anti-White Racism is Tearing America Apart. He painstakingly lays how the United States today is systemically racist, but against whites. His approach is primarily not to expose Critical Race Theory and allied forms of Critical Theory aka “wokeness” although those are certainly addressed. Instead he methodically demonstrates widespread and, yes, systemic anti-white racist policies in virtually every area of American society — education, law enforcement and justice, immigration, entertainment, environmentalism, big business and employment, as well as the military.
It is a wide ranging book indeed! Carl also addresses religion in a chapter. I thought that chapter his weakest, but that might not be fair given how much I focus on religion and the infiltration of it.
His penultimate chapter looks at demands for reparations which are really expropriations. What once was fringe is now being enacted in blue jurisdictions. Given the recent history of Zimbabwe and South Africa, that should alarm. In that chapter, Ibram X. Kendi is among those he takes to task. Carl notes well that Kendi’s version of “‘anti-racist’ is simply an euphemism for ‘anti-white.’”
His final chapter lays out some proposals for combatting the current anti-white systemic racism. I could nitpick as always but most of these proposals are good and needful. I particularly appreciate his proposal to “Hold Black Political Leaders and White ‘Progressives’ Accountable for Anti-White Policies and Rhetoric.” I am among those hesitant in the past to do so because we want to avoid even the appearance of racism. But I’ve had enough, and I’m finding my voice. We all need to find out our voice. I also heartily agree with boycotting businesses that engage in anti-white racism as much as we can.
His proposal to “Implement Net-Zero Immigration” would be controversial but after years of accelerated replacement, it is needed. I would go further and say we need net-negative immigration for a time given the past four years. In any case it is indeed past time immigration policy gets back to “prioritizing what is best for Americans and our needs over the interests of foreigners” — and of power-hungry Democrats I would add.
Although the subject is not pleasant at all (I do not recommend it for bedtime reading.), The Unprotected Class is one of those books that is both scholarly and very readable. Some may think “scholarly” might be flattery, but Carl takes pains to lay out the facts with a minimum of hot rhetoric. As for documentation, his endnotes alone take up 76 pages.
If there is a better book on this difficult but needful subject, I am not aware of it. In any case The Unprotected Class is a must read for anyone concerned about the current state of American society.
Allow me to pound the table some and expound briefly why such a book is so needed. As I said in my previous post on the subject of anti-semitism and related predations, we need to know what time it is. Rod Dreher in Live Not By Lies urges us to “see, judge, act.” We must see what time it is in order to act wisely. Part of that is being aware that this is not an America systemically racist against blacks as sixty years ago but an America systemically racist against whites, especially white men. We should stop pretending otherwise.
Also I’ve asserted that support for the current regime should not be acceptable among Christians. The current regime is that evil and that predatory. Anti-white racism is a significant part of that evil.
We rightly agree that racism against people of color is not acceptable in the church. We need to insist that racism against whites, whether under the guise of “social justice” or “equity” or “diversity”, is not acceptable either. Leaders who refuse to cast off anti-white racism should be excommunicated and expelled from their positions. Congregations who willfully continue in anti-white racism should be clearly warned then expelled if they do not repent of their racism. That has been done with with some of those racist against blacks. It should be done with at least those most racist against whites.
Jeremy Carl in The Unprotected Class does a good work in documenting that the current situation is that grave.
