A happy Easter to my Western Christian friends. (Eastern Orthodox — God bless you all — are still deep into Lent . . . which makes me that much more glad I’m Anglican.) Remember that Easter is not just a day, but a season that lasts all the way to Ascension Day.
And with the secular calendar, especially the overweening alphabet calendar, getting more and more demanding, I suggest us Christians do more and MOAR Easter this year all the way up to Ascension Day. Heck, when the Orthodox finally get around to Easter, maybe we should join them and keep on celebrating Easter right on into June, when the secular world will be celebrating the month of deadly sin.
Speaking of about 40% of the secular calendar now being alphabet observances, readers surely noticed “President” Biden issued a proclamation for the Transgender Day of Visibility for March 31st. Yes, Easter Sunday this year. And he announced the proclamation on Good Friday.
I’m not going to rehash that much as you all are likely aware of this. And I am late on writing on this as I wanted to focus on the Triduum and Easter. (And I delayed an additional day as what I have to say is not easy to write or to read. So I wanted to pray and sleep on it.) I did post a bit on X and briefly express my outrage, but that’s about it.
But I do want to address how we, especially us Christians, should and should not respond. First, as I already suggested, we should double down and reemphasize celebrating Christian holidays and seasons. That is probably the best and most important way to push back against being crowded out from the culture’s calendar by alphabet and other secular causes. And celebrate those days as Holy Days. On Christmas celebrate the Nativity of Christ; on Easter celebrate the Resurrection of Christ, etc. And go to church! But at this point I think we also need to stop doing some things namely . . .
Stop making excuses. Stop pretending.
Yes, even for this episode, Christians, including a few I respect, are making excuses for Biden. Some of them resemble this meme I stole from
…The excusers note Transgender Day of Visibility has regularly been March 31st, and Biden has always issued a proclamation for it. The excuse-makers talk as if this is long standing custom. But the first President to issue such a proclamation is . . . Joe Biden in 2021.
Since my first draft of this, Biden has claimed, “I didn’t do that.” Given that he is a puppet president with signs of dementia, I guess that’s plausible. Or is it that he is a pathological liar? It’s a mystery.
Nonetheless, he is responsible for the cretins in the White House, just as he is responsible for his regime trying to put Christians in prison for up to 11 years for singing and praying in an abortion clinic, just as he is responsible for his FBI surveilling Trad Cats as dangerous extremists, just he is responsible for his press secretary saying, “our hearts go out to the trans community as they are under attack” right after a trans shot up the Nashville Christian school, killing six. Hearts rarely go out to murdered Christians from the Biden White House. I could go on. The Biden Regime’s provocative and predatory conduct against Christians is nothing new.
And surely people in the White House knew March 31st was Easter this year. And surely someone noticed that the proclamation was about to be issued on Good Friday. So no — no excuses for this. Even non-Christians such as Sasha Stone and James Lindsay can see this was a deliberate provocation.
And Biden (or those who pull his strings) is far from alone among Democrats is using the Transgender Day of Visibility to trample upon Easter Sunday. Several Democrats, including Vice-President Kamala Harris issued big proclamations of that alphabet day while soft-pedaling Easter. New York Governor Kathy Hochul even had landmarks lit up in trans colors for the alphabet holy day. So this was no accident. It was an opportunity for Democrats to stick it to Christians. And that is exactly what they did, from the White House and coast to coast.
Shame on them, and shame on Christians being so cuckolded as to make excuses for them.
And shame on us if we continue to pretend as well.
With Democrats using the coincidence of the alphabet calendar and the Christian calendar to show their contempt for Christians and for our faith, we finally have to stop pretending that it’s okay for Christians to support and vote for Democrats.
I have long hesitated to go there. And I get the temptation to keep pretending. Do you think I enjoy seeing our government and politics descend further and further into evil? Do you think I like it that our country and, yes, most of the institutional church keeps falling and failing? Do you think I like seeing Christian leaders whore themselves for an evil regime and for evil ideologies? Trust that I’d rather write about other more pleasant things and may do so in due time.
Do you think I like getting to the point where I have to call out Christians who support a major political party? I’ve already lost Christian friends I once respected over this and related issues and probably will lose more. I know very well that it would be so much easier and nicer to pretend.
But Christians, of all people, should live by the truth and not pretend. We are to see and perceive and act accordingly, not pretend to avoid having to make difficult choices. “Live not by lies” is not just the title of a book.
Nonetheless I wrestled with this question in my podcast just two weeks ago. Remembering that I was pro-abortion for a time after my conversion, I still think it is important to give space for Christians who are new or are renewing to learn and grow. I still recognize that for many other Christians, politics is a low priority. I still recognize we Christians all have our blind spots, which differ from Christian to Christian. And, having voted for Democrats in the past, I still see that there may still be a few — MUCH fewer than in the past — Democrats that have enough ethics, courage and common sense that Christians should consider supporting them.
But how many Democrat public officials have denounced Biden’s proclamation? I have searched but found none yet. Love or hate Trump, but his campaign quickly denounced Biden in no uncertain terms as have quite a number of other Republicans.*
It’s time to stop pretending it’s okay to support Democrats, especially for Christians to support Democrats. That time was probably well before now, particularly with the Democrat thirst for the blood of unborn children. But now Democrats have spit their rainbow vomit in the face of Christians on their most Holy Days of Good Friday and Easter. Enough is enough.
So, no, I will not be silent as Christianity Today is so far on this Democrat provocation and its implications. As of this morning, I see not one article on Biden and others transgressing Easter on CT’s home page.
If at this point, you call yourself a Christian and have for some time and still support Democrats . . . I hardly know what to say. Maybe you are about as much a Christian as cheating swimmer Lia Thomas is a woman. But maybe I am the one going too far to suggest that as us Christians all err and stray as I confess every day. But you need to take a good long look at yourself at the very least.
As for “Christian” leaders who still support Democrats and their agenda at this point, they should not be cut such slack. They should be warned and then, if they do not repent, excommunicated, just as Dietrich Bonhoeffer separated from “German Christians” who supported the Nazis and their anti-semitism.
I know my contention may shock, and I so wish I did not find it necessary to come to this point. But the Democrat Party has descended into such evil that support for that party is now in similar evil territory as support for Nazis or Communists. We should allow a lot of room for political differences in the church. And, again, newer and renewing Christians especially should be given space to learn and grow. But support for today’s Democrats goes too far to be acceptable from Christian leaders.
There is a time for patience as Bonhoeffer exercised for years. But then there is a time to pick your side. If you are a leader in the organized church or have claimed to be a Christian for some years, do not continue to support today’s Democrats after this transgressed Easter Sunday and still claim to be a faithful Christian. The two may have been compatible and defensible decades ago. They are compatible no longer.
So pick your side.
No more excuses. No more pretending.

*To be clear I am not saying and will not say that Christians must support Republicans. There are many Republicans I cannot support.
First time I’ve read your work and I came on the perfect day. It’s very hard to find brave Christians to speak plain truth these days. Real Christianity is Goodness, Truth, and Beauty. There is nothing good, true, or beautiful about Democrats on April 3, 2024. I’ve said many times - you can’t be pro-choice and be Catholic (I converted April 3, 1999 - best day of my life despite the human error and even evil that permeates our Church). You just can’t. And perhaps you’re right, Mark…you can’t be a Democrat and be Christian anymore. Thanks for writing it down. Glad I subscribed.
Thank you for your article. Too many Christians have been lulled into a spiritual "Netflix and chill" mentality and have made peace with the world when the temporary ruler of this world continues to wage war against our Savior, Creator and King. I have subscribed and will be reading your other items.
