About the efforts to remove Donald Trump from the ballot in various states, most of what I’ve read misses the point. And that includes what I’ve read from Trump supporters. They point out, sometimes mock, how utterly off base the attempts are and how likely they will be shot down. They also point out that not only is Trump not an insurrectionist for insisting on a fair and accurate election, not only did he repeatedly call for January 6th to be peaceful, including in his speech that day, but that January 6th itself was not an insurrection. They point out the attempts are yet another Democrat effort to rig an election, just more brazen than past rigging.
And all that is true. But it still misses the point (although I do think we should give attention to the ongoing history of Democrat election rigging). The above is not what should alarm us the most about these attempts.
That although the possibility of Trumped-up (pun intended) convictions in Democrat courts could assist efforts to remove him from the ballot. If those succeed . . . well, let’s just remember the last time a leading POTUS candidate was not allowed on multiple states’ ballots, the Civil War followed soon after.
But for the sake of argument let’s assume those efforts have no chance. We should still be alarmed. Here’s why.
Removing one’s leading political opponent from the ballot, along with trying to imprison him on bogus charges, is what totalitarians, tyrants, and Putins do. Yet most Democrats support removing Trump from ballots. Not all — there remain some Democrats that have not cast off all American Constitutional principles. But that is only some, not most. And not Biden, even though he has an obvious opportunity to increase good will by coming out of the basement and at least pretending to oppose these efforts. That he has not speaks volumes.
And Democrat voters support the anti-democratic efforts, not just the politicians and activists. A CBS/YouGov poll has 81% of Democrats supporting removing Trump from ballots. (Question 33) Granted, CBS polls can be skewed, to put it nicely, but even if it’s say 65% of Democrats, what does this say about today’s Democrat Party? To me it says this once mixed party is going/has gone totalitarian and is now profoundly un-American.
What future does America has when a major party has so gone off the rails into a tyrannical mindset? I know that for me these numbers make a national divorce that much more attractive.
It also should alarm that these efforts have gotten as far as they have. Because a majority of the Colorado Supreme Court removed Trump from the ballot, it is necessary for the U. S. Supreme Court to step in. This should not be so in a healthy country.
Nor is this just Trump Derangement Syndrome. There are Democrat Congresscretins who want dozens of Republicans expelled or not allowed to run for re-election simply because they contested the rigged 2020 election. Jonathan Turley:
Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ) sought to bar 126 members of Congress under the same theory for challenging the election before Jan. 6, 2021.
Similar legislation from Rep. Cori Bush (D-Mo.) to disqualify members got 63 co-sponsors, all Democrats, including New York Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Jamaal Bowman and Ritchie Torres and “Squad” members Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan.
That even though Democrats have contested every Presidential election which Republicans won this millennium! And they conducted what was in effect a perpetual coup against Trump’s 2016 election. 1988 is the last Republican victory in a Presidential election that Democrats did not contest.
So we have a major party whose modus operandi is refusing to respect elections they lose, rigging elections to win, and expelling opponents who are not controlled opposition, who do not go along meekly with their predatory attacks on constitutional democracy. Even if one disagrees with me that the Democrat Party is going totalitarian, this should alarm. It is a profoundly unhealthy and precarious situation.
We really need a reality check here. The Democrat Party has normalized the sort of anti-democratic tyranny we once thought only happened in other countries. Well, we have become one of those other countries or at least are too close to it.
But before readers get black-pilled, as I nearly am, there is a bright side. Democrats are showing their colors for all to see with eyes to see, and this is causing at least some to rethink their allegiances as
did in 2020. Committed Democrats may be clapping like seals at the glorious totalitarianism, but most Americans are not. And the numbers of those who see something is very wrong are increasing. So there is hope. But we had better do more than hope. Our future as a country is bleak if such a poisonous tyrannical major party is not politically punished and decimated and that soon.
