Roman Catholic Same-Sex Blessings: Rome Has Fallen
Thoughts on the Accelerated Apostasy of the Church of Rome
There is a medieval prophesy of the Last Emperor that was written in various forms.
The prophesy goes that the godly Last Emperor will overcome his enemies and restore both his empire and the church. But instead of reveling in his victory, he will go as a pilgrim to the foot of The Cross, and there lay down his crown and abdicate. At that point, the Antichrist steps into the power vacuum and does his worst.
I wonder if the medievals who promulgated this were unknowingly prophesying of the abdication of the last godly Pope. After all, the Papacy has some connections with the Roman Empire. And then, after the abdication, the spirit of Antichrist usurps the Papal Throne.
In light of Rome just now endorsing same-sex blessings, let the reader understand.
Whether this shocking development is fulfillment of medieval prophecies or not, it is at least a partial fulfillment of what St. Peter himself warned us:
But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves. Many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of the truth will be maligned; and in their greed they will exploit you with false words; their judgment from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep. 2 Peter 2: 1-3
I’ve already written back in Autumn that we are likely in the Great Apostasy foretold in Scripture.
I am that much more convinced now. One does not have to be Roman Catholic (and I am not) to see that the apostasy of the Church of Rome is profoundly significant.
And, no, at least on this post I will not bother to argue that willfully going against scripture on sexuality and marriage is apostasy. Christians of any faithfulness and experience should know that already. But if you want an argument,
asserts that well in his post this morning.Instead I will reassert that there are three prevalent markers of apostasy today. If a church or Christian (I exempt new Christians who need to learn.) has any of these three, he is likely apostate or heading there. The three markers are 1. denial of orthodoxy or orthopraxy on sexuality and marriage, 2. adherence to Critical Theory aka wokeness and 3. certain Universalism. I may say more another day.
Nor will I bother to answer the Jesuitical fig leaf that same-sex marriage isn’t being blessed. It is obvious what is going on with winks and nudges. Unfaithfulness while pretending to be faithful is what Jesuits do. Pope Clement XIV was right to suppress that evil order, and it should have stayed suppressed. Instead we got a Jesuit pope with diabolical consequences.
And yet, like the Church of England bishops, they pretend they haven’t changed church teaching. Proverbs 30:20 comes to mind:
This is the way of an adulterous woman:
She eats and wipes her mouth,
And says, “I have done no wrong.”
So now that Rome went there and endorsed what has become the sacrament of apostasy — same-sex blessings — what now? Some bullet points:
First, even if one thinks me wrong that we are in the Great Apostasy, one should still at least prepare, and with urgency, that I am right. Again, I wrote back in October on our preparation and response. I intend to write more, and Rod Dreher has written books and numerous posts on that. Read. Pray. Prepare.
Second, this makes schism in the Roman Catholic Church that much more likely — and needed. To paraphrase St. Paul, there must be schisms between the orthodox and the apostates “that those who are approved may become evident.” (1 Corinth 11:19)
Third, matters will become that much worse for the orthodox. For institutional support, even from the church, behind the right to continue in orthopraxy (orthodox practice) is falling to the wayside. Rome often said it could not do certain things because it cannot change the ancient teaching of the church. Francis and allies say, “Oh yeah? Watch us.”
I think the only worldwide church still upholding orthodoxy are the Orthodox. But even they have gotten dodgy. I will add that the GAFCON Anglicans are holding the line somewhat well, but in most countries they do not have the institutional sway that the Church of Rome does.
So now those who remain orthodox and refuse to bless sin will be that much more vulnerable to lawsuits and worse. And worse may sadly be the case in areas of the world particularly hostile to loose Western attitudes about sexuality. (Pray for churches in these areas particularly as Christmas approaches.) That makes the Vatican’s move all the more egregious.
But this comes with blessings. Jesus promises blessings upon those persecuted for righteousness’ sake. (Matt. 5:10-12) One blessing is now we will find out who the real faithful are; for you can expect the unfaithful faux Christians who have not done so already will soon capitulate on sexuality as well.
For faithfulness will take that much more courage, including the courage to be few and far between.
Cardinal Wojtyla of Krakow saw what was coming back in 1976 before he became Pope John Paul II. I will let his words back then close us:
We are now standing in the face of the greatest historical confrontation humanity has ever experienced. I do not think that the wide circle of the American Society, or the whole wide circle of the Christian Community realize this fully. We are now facing the final confrontation between the Church and the anti-church, between the gospel and the anti-gospel, between Christ and the Antichrist. The confrontation lies within the plans of Divine Providence. It is, therefore, in God’s Plan, and it must be a trial which the Church must take up, and face courageously.
Catholic sources say that the Pope isn't as bad as the Archbishop of Canterbury -- yet. Blessings may be informal and may not take the form of, or imitate, marriage. This means not in the church, no rings, no "marriage" vows. But of course Anglicans know this is the nose in the tent, with the full camel soon to follow.
