My sermon has been postponed indefinitely due to a change in my parish’s schedule. So I have time to put down some reflections on this election. First, something personal.
Others have noticed that their moods are lighter as if a weight has been lifted off of them. And after reading them, I noticed I am that way, too.
I knew that the dread of what could happen after a Harris victory stressed me. And I expected some relief if Trump won. But there is a lightness to me I did not expect. Defeating the totalitarians, even if only for a time, really makes a difference.
And now I already feel more freedom. For one thing, I have a project or two I now intend to make more public. It’s nice not to have to wonder if one should go underground instead.
Yes, I know this election does not solve all our problems. Politics never can. And I know the totalitarians that currently dominate the Democrat Party will not just give up. But the totalitarians have taken a great defeat and will be kept at bay for a time, thanks to God and Trump. And I am thankful. I do rejoice. And I have a greater degree of peace.

This was a historic election, and I don’t think most of us appreciate it as we should. Some California vote is still not yet counted, but it is the first time a Republican has won the popular vote since 2004, probably a majority. You’d have to go back to 1988 for a bigger Republican landslide in a presidential election. With the country as divided as it is now, this is remarkable.
And it is a complete redoing of political coalitions. Young men shifted suddenly from Democrat to Republican. And I want to be one of the first to welcome my Hispanic pro-Trump male friends to fellow “racist” status. The shift in Hispanic and other demographics caused some counties that had not voted Republican in living memory to do so this election. Starr County Texas, over 90% Hispanic, went for Trump by 57.7% to 41.8%. The last time it went Republican was in 1898. That’s 1898.
Will Democrats make this election even more historic by actually respecting it? They have not respected a Republican presidential victory since 1988. So I’m not holding my breath. But I have to give credit to Joe Biden who actually gave a good speech respecting and encouraging respect for Trump’s win. We shall see if most of the party follows him. Some Democrats are advising just that. Some are even saying the vilification of Trump voters must stop.
But there are a number of prominent Democrats clearly not respecting Trump’s election. New York Attorney General Letitia James’ press conference was beyond disgusting. I cannot recall a statement like hers after any previous presidential election, especially one as decisive as this one. And Illinois Governor Pritzker’s defiance against deporting invaders is too close to treason.
But a bigger problem might be Senate Republicans not adequately respecting Trump’s election. Will they really stick us with an establishment RINO as Majority Leader? Thune and Cornyn are the frontrunners for now. That is NOT what Americans voted for.
On a happier note, this is only the second time we will have a President for two non-consecutive terms. Until the mess of 2020, I thought Grover Cleveland in 1892 was a curious oddity not to be repeated. But here we are after much more tumult than what accompanied Cleveland’s defeat and reelection.
And again, has there ever been a campaign like this one? Mug shots turned into political icons, kangaroo court indictments and convictions, a heroic and bloodied candidate rising up from an assassination attempt, McDonalds, Trump rallies upon Trump rallies and more. What a ride it as been! We will never see the likes of it again in our lifetimes.
And, yes, I will rejoice even if, heck, especially if pseudo-pious Big Eva ninnies don’t like it. Us Americans have been hated and slandered and threatened by this regime and its supporters for years. (And that continues from Regime supporters, but anyway…) If the Regime were to continue in power, it would have likely been this end of this country and of American freedom. Its resounding defeat, even if it turns out to be temporary, is worth celebrating. It is mercy and a victory and deliverance from God Almighty, and I will rejoice.
