I hope my readers are having a good week and a good Assumption/Dormition Day. I’ve had a fun week that included an overnight (but not drunken) beer run to buy some beers near Houston that one cannot find where I live. Then I caught a lot of waves the past two mornings from that no-name tropical blob coming this way to South Texas.
These are among the happy reasons I have not written much this week. Sorry, but not sorry really.
Say, I want to mention that I sometimes wrestle with what comments to allow or not. I do think I want to begin the following policy.
Since I do not charge to subscribe, Substack does not allow me to confine comments to subscribers. But I appreciate constructive comments, including thoughtful critical comments, from those who don’t subscribe.
However, I have decided that if someone does not subscribe, I will treat his comment with a stricter standard than I would if he did subscribe. Of course, I will not tolerate abusive or intellectually dishonest comments from anybody (unless I want to leave them up to be mocked). But if someone cannot bother to subscribe to my substack when it is free, then then why should I bother with unhelpful comments from him/her?
I say this after wasting too much time with willfully ignorant baiting overnight.
Like I said, subscribing does not give you a pass to vomit in my comments. But I will cut you more slack — another reason to go ahead and subscribe . . . for free!
Carry on and have a good weekend.

An entirely reasonable comments policy!
Inquiring minds want to know… so what beers were you making that daunting run for?
